Summary: A sniper, an impossible save, and a call to a grandparent.

The shout had drawn everyone's attention to the sniper, just a second to late for anyone to do anything. For once, the target wasn't the Kaitou Kid, but Nakamori. That might have been the reason no one reacted soon enough.

Saguru stood staring, while Nakamori tried to dodge, while Kid fired a shot against the sniper, while everyone tried to do something. To him, it felt like everything was going in slow motion, like people were hurrying without getting anywhere.

They really were, he realized. Their faces, movements, everything suggested they were all trying to hurry. It was just that they were moving so slowly. Saguru glanced across the room, at Nakamori. He expected to see the man fall, maybe blood flowing across the floor. Instead, he was almost frozen, and hanging in the air next to him, moving slowly, but still faster than anything else in the room...

Saguru started running. Across the room, around people not moving anywhere near as fast as he did, and the closer he got, the more things seemed to slow. He hit Nakamori at full speed, throwing them both to the floor.

The bullet smashed a vase that had been standing behind Nakamori, breaking it into several large pieces, and the room was suddenly filled with noise and people moving at normal speed. Nakamori grabbed him, and dragged him into safety behind a corner, cursing all the while, Kid's shot slammed into the sniper's weapon, knocking it out of his hands and three officers grabbed the sniper simultaneously, shoving him to the ground.

"Goddamnit kid." Nakamori growled after everything had calmed down. "Do you have any idea how easily you could have gotten yourself killed?! A second slower, and that bullet would have gone through your head!"

Saguru nodded, not believing that for a second. He was absolutely certain that, if he had needed one more second, he'd have had one more second. He had no idea where the certainty came from, but it was there.

"You, drive him home before he collapses." Nakamori grabbed hold of the first and best officer that came too close, showing concern in his own way. "And keep the journalists away." He added before walking off.

"Yes, sir." The poor man muttered.

Saguru followed the officer to the parking lot, which was a bit out of the way. Most of the Task Force, Kid's audience and everyone else were still at the scene. The officer stopped, and there was a puff of smoke, before Kid appeared in it.

Saguru wondered if he should be surprised, while the thief smirked at him and called for a taxi, of all things. He didn't bother to try and arrest the thief. Kid wouldn't be taking unnecessary risks at this point, so any attempt would most likely fail.

And he was simply too damn tired.

"You saved his life." Kid said sweetly, studying him, like Saguru had suddenly become intensely interesting. "And went from being at one side of the very large room to being at the other end, in less than a second."

Saguru went cold. "Hardly. I was right next to him. You simply missed me."

"Right. Do excuse me if I don't believe you." Kid said, in Saguru's voice, sarcasm and all. "Your taxi will be here soon, detective."

Then he was gone. Saguru supposed he needed some time to unwind after tonight, like the rest of them. He'd known Nakamori almost his whole life, after all.

The taxi ride was short, and Saguru went directly to his room, shivering, and thinking back. There was no possible way to move that quickly. It was impossible, and he'd done it anyway.

Saguru really needed to talk to someone, because it had happened, but who could he talk to about this?

Except, maybe...

He grabbed the phone, dialed and waited, time zones be damned. Luckily, he didn't have to wait long.

"Grandmother? It's Saguru. I need to talk to you about something."

And in England, Susan Foreman leaned back in her chair and listened to her grandson's story.

Author's Note: For those who doesn't know, Susan Foreman is the Doctor's grandaughter, who ended up staying on earth with a man named David. So my thought is: Susan - Saguru's mother - Saguru.
